Music is the spice of life. It moves our hearts and touches our souls. It reaches beyond borders and unites peoples of various tongues, religions, and backgrounds.
If I could only take three musical artists with me to a secluded desert island, never to hear any other music again, one that I most definitely would choose would be Cesaria Evora. This Empress of Cape Verde has the voice of angels of which there is no compare. I can’t even understand what she is singing (she sings in Portuguese) as a native English speaker, but no matter. I can feel the romantic passages as I pine for her losses.
Evora was prolific in her musical offerings and thank goodness for that. She has a voice that will live on for generations to come. Hers are instant classics that will last for all of time.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”
–Plato
