So, I consult with various people about fashion designers that inspire them. My best friend had a lot of great ones that she threw out there which work in accordance with her understated, irreverent, somewhat androgynous, minimalist chic style.
The Row was one of her top picks. The Row uses great fabrics, pared down designs, and expert cuts. Sumptuous fabrics are used plentifully, there is no cutting corners here with ingredients. They give you a lot of it to work with. Many of the looks are remarkably ladylike and almost as though they hail from a bygone era. These clothes are for a woman who doesn’t need to get noticed to get what she wants. She knows she’s got it and no one needs to tell her or validate her existence. It’s a relatively new line, established circa 2006, but it has become a fashion mainstay at New York Fashion Week and is massively successful. The company is also Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s brainchild.
Who would have thought ten years ago that these cherubic identical child starlets had it in them to create such a sophisticated and upmarket line? Just goes to show, never judge a book by its cover.
