Budapest has become an unlikely fashion destination. Some years ago, this would have seemed somewhat implausible. However, as Hungary has economically and socially skyrocketed with entry into the European Union in 2005, the capital of this small, landlocked European nation has become increasingly multicultural and a place for entrepreneurial growth.
NUBU is one such example. It is a label that represents the collaboration of three Hungarian designers. Founded in 2007 in Budapest, Hungary, it is characterized predominantly by its chic minimalism and elegant styles. The line is really a representation of the young, urban counterculture of the city and the sophistication of its inhabitants. Budapest is a very youthful city and as such, NUBU is ever evolving, changing, and adapting with the times. The art, culture, and music which is so critical to the heart and soul of this urban area, is reflective in the clean lines, irreverant aesthetic, and gotham functionality of each respective collection. As a representation of the region, NUBU is a success story in conveying the power of the Magyars, a country which has dominated imperiously for so many centuries and who has come to reclaim the throne and kingly title, one fashion house at a time.
“I was born and trained to communicate music, just as the sons were born and trained to hunt, and I was lucky to have grown up in Hungary, a country that lives and breathes music- that has a passionate belief in the power of music as a celebration of life.”
-Georg Solti
