Anyone that knows me know that I am a big fan of olive oil as a beauty treatment. Ever since I was a teen, I would coat my hair every Sunday and sleep with it overnight. The next morning, I would wake up to glistening strands. I also used to lie on the roof of the red 18th century Colonial I grew up in, coated in the stuff to soak in the sun additionally, but nevermind. That was then. I would never recommend this! I am the biggest proponent of sunscreen nowadays!
My skin on my face and body over the years has benefitted from the stuff. This tradition of olive oil has a home remedy for skincare has been around since the time of ancient Egypt and Greece, so it has a long lineage and an earned reputation. I use the real stuff from the grocery story. I like Felippo Berio, Colavita, and Spectrum Naturals. I generally sleep with it on my hair and on my skin and wash it off in the morning. Some people complain about the smell, I personally love it; it smells natural and without chemicals. I infinitely prefer this to artificial scents for the body. To me, it emits the scent of a Meditteranean morning and there is no place in the world I would rather be.
“A good trick is to put olive oil on the ends of your hair or use an olive oil treatment. I do that and I leave it on overnight then rinse it. It’s really moisturizing.”
