Pave Perfection

Lot-1701-A-PAIR-OF-DIAMOND-EAR-PENDANTS-BY-CARNET

As with everything else, not all jewelry is created equal.  Just because a pricetag reads expensive does not mean it is worth it, nor does it speak for the quality of the gemstones or the craftsmanship.  In fact, most of it is tacky heaven unfortunately.  In the wise words of Dolly Parton, “It costs a lot to look this cheap.”

In order not to look like a high class mistress (yes I said it),  here are some tips:

First things first, look at the clarity of the gemstones, look at the quality of the metal, look at the design and the amount of stones.  Is it over the top or does it make you think of Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn or another highly elegant, celebrated woman?

I prefer pave jewelry of the antique variety or something unusual, something I have never seen before!  I generally steer clear of anything generic looking. Swarovski makes some nice choices that are not that pricy.  Loren Jewelers makes some nice selections additionally, but they will cost!  Look through the Christie’s website as well.  When doing so, be certain to check out the provenance of the piece and the collection they came from.

When wearing bold jewelry such as this, be sure to pare down your clothes and keep everything simple and refined to make the pave jewels stand on their own. Whatever you do, do not go overboard.  Keep it basic and let those diamonds shine!

There’s definitely a thin line between being tasteful and tacky.
